{"id":51219,"date":"2018-04-26T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2018-04-25T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.santpol.edu.es\/innovacion-tradicion-protagonistas-del-concurso-cocina-joven-catalunya-organizado-euht-stpol\/"},"modified":"2018-04-26T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2018-04-25T22:00:00","slug":"innovacion-tradicion-protagonistas-del-concurso-cocina-joven-catalunya-organizado-euht-stpol","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.santpol.edu.es\/en\/blog\/innovacion-tradicion-protagonistas-del-concurso-cocina-joven-catalunya-organizado-euht-stpol\/","title":{"rendered":"Innovation and tradition: main items of the Catalonia\u2019s Young Cooking Contest held by EUHT StPOL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>The two Michelin-starred chef Oriol Castro (Disfrutar Barcelona), presided over the Jury of the 32nd Edition of Catalonia\u2019s Young Cooking Contes, one of the oldest culinary contests in Spain<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>This past Wednesday 25th April 2018 the <strong>University College of Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts of Sant Pol de Mar<\/strong> has held the 32<sup>nd<\/sup> edition of <strong>Catalonia\u2019s Young Cooking contest<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This event is part of the <strong>39<sup>th<\/sup> Gastronomy University Meeting<\/strong> and is one of the oldest culinary contests in Spain, this has been taking place since 1987.<\/p>\n<p>The contest had a total of <strong>9 participants<\/strong> that came from both the academic and the professional areas. Each one of them presented a dish following this year\u2019s theme: <strong>Innovation in the traditional cuisine<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>culinary proposals<\/strong> of the contestants were valued by a professional jury chaired by the two Micheling-starred chef, <strong>Oriol Castro<\/strong> (Disfrutar Barcelona). Also part of the jury were <strong>Mrs. Rosa Mayordomo<\/strong>, President of the <em>Acad\u00e8mia Catalana de Gastronomia i Nutrici\u00f3<\/em>; <strong>Mr. Ramon Serra<\/strong>, President of the Executive Direction Board of Sant Pol de Mar\u2019s Hotel-School; <strong>Dra. Diane Dodd<\/strong>, Director of the <em>International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism<\/em> (IGCAT), <strong>Dr. Jos\u00e9 Antonio Donaire<\/strong>, vice chancellor of Communication and International Relations for the University of Girona and <strong>Mr. Fernando Toda<\/strong>, representing the magazine Saber y Sabor (Grupo Vilbo).<\/p>\n<p>During the day, the contestants presented and explained the details of their creations, and also answered the questions asked by the members of the Jury. Once the 9 dishes of the participants were displayed, it was time for the evaluation behind closed doors and, finally, the prize-giving ceremony.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Oriol Castro<\/strong> wanted to begin the ceremony with a brief speech in which he wants to underline the importance of being \u201ca good cook but, above all, a good person\u201d since, he says, in his restaurant (Disfrutar Barcelona) \u201cpeople come first, we make a great team.\u201d Furthermore, he congratulated every contestant and flattered their proposals, encouraging them to keep learning.<\/p>\n<p>The awards were distributed in 5 categories and a total of <strong>4 prizes<\/strong>. The <strong>Absolut Prize<\/strong>, awarded by Sant Pol\u2019s Hotel-School and\u00a0 given by <strong>Oriol Castro<\/strong>, President of the Jury, has been for <strong>Eric D\u00edaz<\/strong>, coming from <strong>Escuela Joviat<\/strong>. The winning proposal was titled <em>\u201cPollo a la manresaneta\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>As the winner of the contest, <strong>Eric D\u00edaz<\/strong> will represent Catalonia at the <strong>European Young Chef Award<\/strong> that will take place next <strong>November <\/strong>in Galway (Ireland).<\/p>\n<p>The<strong> Award for the Skills and the Best Preparation Technique<\/strong> was for the dish <em>\u201cMar y monta\u00f1a a la llauna\u201d<\/em> cooked by<strong> Jos\u00e9 Cuesta<\/strong> of <strong>The One <\/strong>and given by <strong>Mrs. Rosa Mayordomo<\/strong>, President of the <em>Acad\u00e8mia Catalana de Gastronomia i Nutrici\u00f3.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Melvin Alvarado,<\/strong> pupil of <strong>Sant Pol\u2019s Hotel-School<\/strong>, has been handed the <strong>Award for Imagination and Creativity <\/strong>with a culinary proposal named <em>\u201cCal\u00e7ot a la brasa con romesco\u201d<\/em>. <strong>Merc\u00e8 Escrics<\/strong>, responsible of the areas of Knowledge, quality and touristic competitiveness for the Generalitat de Catalunya, has given the trophy.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, the <strong>Award for the Best Presentation <\/strong>has been for <strong>Daniel Mart\u00ednez<\/strong>, from <strong>EHTB Barcelona<\/strong> with the dish <em>\u201cSepia a la bruta\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The ceremony has also counted on the presence of <strong>Montserrat Garrido, Mayor of Sant Pol de Mar<\/strong>, who has closed down the prize-giving congratulating all the contestants and winners;
