Coinciding <\/strong><strong>with the anniversary, the students of the Technical Degree in Gastronomy and Restaurant Service have participated in a seminar by the Fundaci\u00f3n Dieta Mediterr\u00e1nea. What is the Mediterranean diet and what are its benefits? We explain it in the following lines.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Intangible Cultural Heritage<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>A decade ago, UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) included the Mediterranean Diet in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, a proposal that was presented jointly by Spain, Greece, Italy, and Morocco.<\/p>\n<p>The importance of this element was thus established, as well as its value and need for protection and prevalence. &#8220;The Mediterranean diet is a very important issue,&#8221; remarked Domingo Valiente, director of the<a href=\"https:\/\/dietamediterranea.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong> Fundaci\u00f3n Dieta Mediterr\u00e1nea.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In fact, in the seminar given to the students of the <a href=\"https:\/\/santpol.edu.es\/en\/technical-degree-in-gastronomy-and-restaurant-service\/?utm_source=blog&amp;utm_medium=post&amp;utm_campaign=dieta_mediterranea\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Technical Degree in Gastronomy and Restaurant Service<\/a>, Domingo explained that not only UNESCO endorses the importance of the Mediterranean diet, but also other international organizations such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>WHO (World Health Organization):<\/strong> considers that it is \u201cthe healthiest in the world\u201d.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization)<\/strong>: considers it as \u201cthe most sustainable\u201d due to the importance of the local product, the value of the territory, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;You &#8211; the students who shortly will be working in kitchens, restaurants and hotels &#8211; are the ones who have to lead and promote the Mediterranean diet&#8221;; declared the director of the Foundation.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What is the Mediterranean diet?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s a lifestyle; it is not just about food, it is everything that surrounds it\u201d, said Blanca Raid\u00f3, head of training at the Foundation. It is about a balanced lifestyle that includes recipes, ways of cooking, celebrations, customs, typical products and various human activities.<\/p>\n<p>And so it is embodied in the <strong>new pyramid of the Mediterranean diet<\/strong>, prepared by the Foundation together with other international entities and expert groups, which, in addition to incorporating food consumption guidelines, also includes cultural and social indications linked to the Mediterranean lifestyle.[\/vc_column_text][vc_images_carousel images=&#8221;53845,53848,53854,53842,53851&#8243; img_size=&#8221;960&#215;750&#8243; onclick=&#8221;link_no&#8221; slides_per_view=&#8221;3&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Benefits of the Mediterranean diet<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>According to the website of the Foundation, among the beneficial health properties of this eating pattern are the type of fat that characterizes it (olive oil, fish and nuts); the proportions in the main nutrients of the recipes and the richness in micronutrients, derived from the use of seasonal vegetables, aromatic herbs and condiments.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Scientists have indicated to us that what is established in the pyramid is the healthiest,&#8221; Raid\u00f3 said. And she continued detailing some <strong>benefits of the Mediterranean diet on people&#8217;s health<\/strong>, among which she mentioned effects such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Prevention of degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer&#8217;s<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Reduction in the incidence of coronary heart disease<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Prevention of oncological diseases (colon and breast)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Weight maintenance (reduction of overweight and obesity)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Despite this, &#8220;recent studies indicate that we are increasingly away from the patterns established by the Mediterranean diet,&#8221; Raid\u00f3 pointed out.
