The hotel industry continues to evolve, fusing tradition and modernity to deliver unique experiences for discerning travellers. The World's 50 Best Hotels 2024 list, released in September at a ceremony in London, highlights the establishments that have set the standard for quality, innovation and service. The ranking, compiled by a panel of 600 anonymous industry experts, includes 15 new hotels, reflecting the industry's constant renewal and creativity.
From the Capella Bangkok, recognised as the best hotel in the world, to the elegant Passalacqua on Lake Como, the selection covers a variety of destinations and styles that illustrate the diversity and richness of international hospitality. In addition, special awards such as the Carlo Alberto Best Boutique Hotel Award to Passalacqua, the Flor de Caña Eco Hotel Award to Maroma in Mexico and the Nikka Best New Hotel Award to Bulgari Tokyo have been presented, recognising outstanding efforts in sustainability, innovation and design.

If we look at the international scene, we can see that two continents dominate the list: Asia, in first place, with a total of 21 hotels - almost half. And, in second place, Europe, with 16 hotels. The rest are in the Americas (9), Africa (2) and Oceania (2).
Looking at the countries, we can organise it into three groups: the predominant countries, which have 4 hotels in the top each: Thailand, Italy, France, United Kingdom, United States and Mexico, each with 4 national hotels in the list. Secondly, the countries with an intermediate presence, each with 2 hotels of their own in the top 50: Japan, China, United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Morocco, Singapore, Australia, India and South Africa. And finally, the countries with the least presence in the list, with only 1 hotel per country: Spain, Brazil, Sri Lanka, Oman, French Polynesia and the Fiji Islands. However, some countries such as Germany, Switzerland, Greece, Canada, Argentina, South Korea, Egypt and New Zealand, among others, are conspicuous by their absence from the ranking.
The top positions of the list are respectively in: Bangkok, Thailand (top 1); Lake Como, Italy (top 2); Hong Kong, China (top 3 and top 5) and Paris, France (top 4). Among the hotel chains that own hotels are Rosewood and LVMH [precisely two of the hotel chains that visit the school during the Professional Development Days (PDD)].
In Spain, we only have one hotel, located in the 32nd position of the ranking. It is located in the capital of the country, Madrid, and belongs to the Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts chain.
In conclusion, we can say that the presence of the best hotels in the world is mainly to be found in Asia, followed by Europe, and that in most cases they are located in the capitals of countries or paradisiacal islands.
